Why We Love It
A facial cleanser with lactic acid, glycolic acid and salicylic acid in one wash, plus jojoba beads that melt as you work them in. It lifts away dead surface skin and the day's buildup in a single step, so skin looks smoother and feels genuinely clean rather than stripped. Aloe is in the formula because three acids without something calming alongside them is a bad idea.
- Sizes: 8 oz and 2 oz
- Acids: lactic (AHA), glycolic (AHA), salicylic (BHA)
- Physical exfoliant: jojoba beads, which melt rather than scratch
- Calming: aloe vera
- No parabens. Preserved with phenoxyethanol and potassium sorbate
- Contains grapefruit peel oil, so patch test if citrus oils bother you
Directions
Use on damp skin, morning or night. Massage a small amount in circles for about thirty seconds, letting the jojoba beads melt, then rinse with warm water. Follow with toner and moisturiser. Wear sunscreen daily while using this cleanser.
Ingredients
Salicylic acid (BHA). Oil soluble, so it works on the look of congestion and blackheads.
Glycolic acid (AHA). Lifts the buildup of dead surface skin and smooths the look of texture.
Lactic acid (AHA). The gentlest of the three. Brightens the look of dull skin and holds moisture.
Jojoba beads. Non abrasive beads that melt as you cleanse, lifting debris without scratching.
Aloe vera. Calms and hydrates alongside the acids.
Full list. Water (Aqua), Sodium C14-16 Olefin Sulfonate, Jojoba Esters, Disodium Cocoamphodiacetate, Carbomer, Triethanolamine, Lactic Acid, Salicylic Acid, Glycolic Acid, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice, Citrus Grandis (Grapefruit) Peel Oil, Potassium Sorbate, Phenoxyethanol.
Common questions
What does a lactic acid cleanser do?
Lactic acid is an AHA that helps lift dead surface cells away, so they rinse off with the wash instead of sitting there dulling the light. It is the gentlest of the common AHAs and it holds moisture, which is why it suits drier and more reactive skin better than glycolic alone. Skin looks brighter and feels smoother after rinsing.
Why does this face wash use three acids instead of one?
They work on different things. Lactic and glycolic are AHAs, which are water soluble and work on the surface, smoothing texture and evening the look of tone. Salicylic is a BHA, which is oil soluble, so it works on the look of congestion and blackheads rather than only on the surface. Using all three covers more ground than any one of them does alone.
Is this the triple action face wash people search for, or is it four?
Four. Most multi action cleansers count the acids. This one counts three acids plus the jojoba beads, which is where the quadruple in the name comes from. If you arrived looking for a triple action face wash, this is that, with one more step in it.
Can you use a lactic acid wash every day?
Most people can, because contact time in a cleanser is short. Start at three or four times a week and build up if your skin is comfortable. If skin starts to feel tight, look pink or sting when you apply anything afterwards, drop back to twice a week. Exfoliated skin is more sensitive to sun, so wear sunscreen daily while you are using it.
Is an AHA BHA cleanser suitable for sensitive or acne-prone skin?
The short contact time and the aloe make it gentler than a leave-on acid, and the jojoba beads melt instead of scratching, which matters if scrubs have made your skin worse in the past. This formula contains grapefruit peel oil, and citrus oils irritate some people, so patch test on the jawline first. Acne is a medical condition. If your skin is inflamed or painful, see a dermatologist. Nothing here replaces that.
What size should you buy?
The 8 oz is the everyday size and the better value if this is already your cleanser. The 2 oz is worth starting with if you have not used acids before, or if you want to travel with it. Both are the same formula.
